They see the pain and the sorrow, the wounds of war
And they know they must act; they must do more
They work together, side by side, for the cause they believe
For the hope of a better world where all can achieve
Their footsteps echo through the streets so bare
They carry their knowledge, their love, and their care
For the people, they serve, for the ones left behind
They give all they have in body, heart, and mind
The battle rages on, and the noise of war grows loud
But their spirit never wavers. They stand so proud
For the ones they serve, for the love they possess
They fight with all their might, and they never rest
And then the day comes when the battle takes its toll
They fall in the line of duty, their spirits whole
Their legacy lives on, and their love never dies
Their memories are held dear, in tears and sigh
In a land far away, where the sun beats down
Their work is done, and their souls have flown
But their love still echoes in every heart they’ve touched
For the lives, they’ve saved, for the hope they’ve clutched
We’ll remember them in every step we take
Their courage and their love, for the world’s sake
For the doctor and anthropologist who gave all they had
We’ll keep their spirit alive for the world to be glad.
